Once is not enough
I cannot kiss your lips
Can’t weather through the pain
If get more than just a glimpse
Of your candid smile
Holding hands the while
Through the pounding rain
I’d come back again
I’ll learn from you
Enjoy your wiles
Absorb the view
Of your every smile
And when comes due
They’ll be no fear
A love that’s true
We’ll nourish here
Many times
I’ve fallen before
To burnished love
Upon closed doors
Not this time love
I will hold true
I’ll be myself
The same to you
I can’t explain
How important it is
To remain clear
And hold this bliss
I’ll not regret
Staking this claim
Opportunity as this
Rarely comes again
I’ll learn from you
Enjoy your wiles
Absorb the view
Of your every smile
And when comes due
There’ll be no fear
A love this true
We’ve nourished dear
+++++++
Intent: I will love you and build something real, with healthy boundaries
Romantic, slow wistful longing that gets swirled into hints of light playfulness and humored chagrin sharing “ah – if only!”
Emphasis changes on the word “dear”
First time through as “tender,” last time through as “my dear”
Big band, of course.
The part “not this time love” done in such a way as to be speaking to love itself and/or to the person being sung to.
