It is interesting to note that in order to discuss the European mythos of the dragon representing ego which must be slayed, the discussion in this format itself is reinforcing that the dragon “must be slayed” – rather than educating Western thought to go to the next level of transforming that ego dragon into its transcendent form of “being in natural accord with the universe” – which thematic Mr. Campbell believed should be humanity’s ultimate goal. He left this association open-ended for the listener to bridge to by one’s own evolving awareness and choice to come to understand.
