A Return To Innocence

Natural Instincts

I dreamed of beautiful black, sleek horses in a lush, green, sloping field dotted with tall, gracefully draping trees, and two big draft horses interacting with me, attempting to get me to let them leave their yard – whereupon their owner called out from his window to them to quit coercing me, and they retreated, flicking their tails and tossing their manes, as if laughing.

Then, I heard many kittens calling behind me in an overgrown field, and a woman and I gathered them all and their mother to give them sanctuary – with my finding one a little older accompanying them and wrapping its blue, short-furred with black tiger stripes lankiness into the comfort of my partially rolled up shirt, snuggled against me as if in a momma’s pouch.
