There are no longer legends
For death is ever present
A spectre always looming
To cast our hearts a’glooming
A jealous beast in waiting
Grips flesh in teeth a’tearing
To get at the soul – the meat
Of what makes love in life repleat
But what if we were to feed it
Garden leftovers to earth worms?
Could we somehow appease it
By felling decay in the green woods?
By tending to our planet
As caretakers of our ecosphere
Would longevity be granted
By innocence held again dear?
For then death would know fealty
By repast we all would share
It’d be welcome to extra helpings
For with plenty our love could spare
Whole bakeries full of flakey
Delicacies where none compare
If we joined in love’s communion
No one’s cupboards would be bare
—
Somber to lilting Elden chord melodies
