“Bishop’s Peak”

Maybe an inch and one half long, I found this pretty baby while hiking my favorite low altitude, once lava-cored mountain in San Luis Obispo, California.

Along the sides of the mountain, veins of quarts mixture could be found, with small pieces broken off along the trails.

I can still smell the deep earth there, and the sweet scent of scrub sage brushed against on a hot summer’s day.

I love that from this angle, the rock looks like a baby dragon’s head.

“Juxtaposition Intersections”

Stopping outside the Starbucks, in front of me and to the right about 5 feet on the shaded sidewalk next to the busy street, two men with their backs to me were advertising JW. Then I went into the shop and came back out to find these tickets under my windshield wiper focusing on El Diableo and the paranormal. The placer had passed behind them advertising symbolic counterpoint to Jehovah’s Witness messaging! And when I parked outside my bank, these songs were playing next door at a restaurant’s outdoor patio dining: The Laat In Line by Dio; Heaven’s On Fire By Kiss; I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister; Long Live Rock ‘N Roll by Rainbow; and Creatures Of Night by Kiss. Classic.

“Artisan”

What do an artist’s hands tell us? They speak of time weathered and fashioned by imagination and marks of strength from trials overcome.

Note in the web between my thumb and forefinger: a wedged cut from a slipped chisel stroke in my senior year of highschool while holding an item I was carving during an outside fire drill.

And more recently just above there is subtle bruising – likely from two days ago when I erected large chain link panels to prevent deer from gettimg into our front gardening yard.
