As I left the gym after a workout, something winged by me quickly on the right, did a u-turn to my left, and then slammed hard into the white outside wall of the building.
It was unusual behavior, so I figured whoever the pilot was had gotten sensory overload from sudden huge screened absence of color.
When I investigated, I found out that it was a lovely bronze-brown mantis, so picked it up and let it rest on my hand while I captured some video.
Once finished, I took it to a safer natural spot of landscape. As soon as it recognized green things again, it took off flying and found a leafy bush to nestle within for recalibration.

This evening on the new mountainside, in the garden while we were among our plants as watering, a raven croaked several times as flew overhead. Our first since we’ve been in local residence.
And then, youngling found a young, green grasshopper, a brown baby alligator lizard, and a small, gray, fuzzy and hopping delicate mouse shrew.
When we noticed a rose and hibiscus were getting munched, we found three large green grasshoppers – a praying mantis, too!
I gathered the mantis gently into my hand, hoping that it would not fly off. It began climbing up my arm – and posed while preening for the camera!
