To “Rest In My Skin”

Hypervigilance and repetetive stress response to fleeting stability again becoming unstable takes its toll on a fight or flight cortisol system.

Unable to choose “freeze” as an option due to need to keep moving, body auto-locks down against muscle movement because it wants to stop moving “for safety.”

I remember when the sensation first happened over ten years ago, and how hard I fought against it For if it had won then, I would not have been functional for my children.

It is very vexing to feel hunted and haunted by such a mechanism. I keep fighting to overcome it instead of it overwhelming me – because if I am “the carrier,” I must also be “the solution.”

Building Trust

She learned early on that she was disposable. Non valuable. At the most, chattel.

She didn’t understand how people could not see the beauty inside one another and why they chose to indulge in sin.

Until she realized that humanity was plagued by a sickness, and distanced herself so that she could better understand it.

Filling The Void

When I visited my grandparents as a child, for most of time the television was on in the background of whatever we were doing.

From Mutual Of Omaha to golf and game shows, I Love Lucy, Hawaii Five-O, and Disney if I was lucky, there was another world to turn to to compare and contrast our lives against.

This influence in my life taught me to question everything due to Walter Cronkite Jr. and to analyze “fantasy” vs. “reality” by exploring romance, comedy, action, and thriller movies.

Now, when I toil at a mass of dishes, discomfort is relieved mentally by watching a Netflix series. If I cannot fall asleep, I am lulled into complacency with a show running on loop, volume down low next to me.

The Exchange

“Do you think you know the difference between Fantasy and Reality?” she asked him.

“Of course I do,” he replied, a bit surprised. “I walk that line of demarcation nearly every day of my life.”

She looked at him as a quirk of mirth twitched briefly in her eyebrow, and a hint of a smile formed on her lips as she waited for him to ask for clarification.

Poetic Musings

“Midnight Sun”, Poem From Non-Sync Script

By Athena Stairs, 2016

There was daylight in the night time
And it drew me from my sleep

Others were out, the horses came down
And were playing on the beach

There was a selfish queen
Whom no one seemed able to please

Her wiseman called in strangled tone
My mistress – be at peace!

He pulled from inside his vest
Into glowing light for her behest

One drop of gold-purple elixir
With youth as final trickster

I descended onto the sand
To stand before the man

Then bent my head – extending tongue
Until upon he dropped the sun

This shimmering, vibrant orb
I fought to not absorb

As sought out one fine mare
Deep glossed and of regal air

Then kissed her soft velvety lips –
This love that I was born to miss

In passing through – the old age flew!
Replaced by hard bone, muscled sinew

Her status now to rule the expanse
Her daughter, my duty to suckle.
