“Dragon’s Bane” – An Origin Story

By Athena Stairs, June 15, 2024

A young man and woman met one day by Grace and fell in love.

Over time, as they came to know each other, it became apparent that they had unique foundational philosophies, although to the woman’s point of view, they were complimentary.

The woman, who had herself sprung from the very origins of the myth of Adam’s rib, lived and thrived in creative references to theories of existence, and felt that science was a vital inclusion in her reality, which further helped to clarify certain truths more readily measured, but did not dominate in validity over myth, for myth had been the mother of science.

The man, however, being enthralled with equations, calculations, and quantifications, felt more “safe” and comfortable in defining and categorizing “what can be known.”

He refused to acknowledge that perhaps the two states of understanding were intertwined, and viewed any further inclusion of concepts in myth and/or “magic” as regressive and an affront to the higher levels of intelligence toward which he believed Man should be striving.

Over time, as the woman’s views were not allowed acknowledgement in order to keep the man’s views unthreatened and distillated in his pondering of their purity, primal subconscious anger in her grew and began tapping into the primordial energies for reinforcement as he obliquely continued to shut her down and diminish her essential nature.

Then one day, the power of myth erupted into full glory as her essence transformed into the very proof in current day’s existence of an angered dragon.

But, instead of acknowledging this clear reality before him and bowing to the truth of their philosophies’ existential compatibility, he instead viewed her strength and fire as a threat, and in reaction condemned, chained, and then rejected her.

2:22 AM

In the Bible, two is the number of a “faithful witness,” or someone who is set apart for God. Also worth noting, the word “wisdom” is mentioned 222 times in scripture. Lastly, Acts 2:22 is the only scripture in the whole of the Bible that mentions “signs, miracles and wonders” in the same verse.

Age-isms

I have felt in a gap since crossing over the 50’s threshold, unable to relate to other women regarding what I’ve been going through.

And my mind is still in its earler years, where from my 20’s to 40’s inner expression was relegated into a holding pattern.

I’m not like other women out there.

I am set apart.

Although when a guy I see regularly in passing at the gym does a halt-shift abrupt direction reset when he sees me is heart wounding.

I know I am not the type he is looking for – but he didn’t need to physically translate that into a scene.

He’s typed himself from day one in his actions.

And it sucked that he projected “rejection” onto me.

Then, other women say that maybe I’m “doing something wrong.”

No.

I’m just trying to find and conjure forth what qualifues my own truth expressing.

And I am not stepping on or hurting anyone by my actions.

The most I do is revert to self defense when they are pushing.

And they sure go out of their ways to cast their stones blindly.

Task of Beirurim

Tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

In the Kabbalah, the sin of the Tree of Knowledge (called Cheit Eitz HaDa’at) brought about the great task of beirurim, sifting through the mixture of good and evil in the world to extract and liberate the sparks of holiness trapped therein.
